In Abilene, Texas, dog owners want a place where they can let their dogs run and play safely off-leash. They’re planning to raise funds to make it happen:

We are gathering support for Abilene’s first enclosed, off-leash park for dogs and their owners. Such an area would provide a place for dogs to socialize with other dogs and get much needed exercise off-leash, and for dog owners in the community to meet who have a love for dogs.

The Abilene Reporter News has a bit more information:
As envisioned by The Park People, the proposed $150,000 dog park would have two chain-link fenced-in areas — one for large dogs, one for small dogs. The one for larger dogs would be two acres and be surrounded by a six-foot fence. The one for smaller dogs would be one acre and be surrounded by a four-foot fence.
In addition to shelters, waste stations to put away doggy poo and benches to sit on, it would have water fountains for the dogs and people, said Lydia Long, coordinator for The Park People. …
“If everyone that owns a dog mails in $20, we’ll have a park,” Long said, adding donations can be sent to Connecting Caring Communities, 402 Cypress St., Suite 420, Abilene, TX 79601.
