Wellington dog news April 2014

Wellington’s Capital Canine News for April 2014 has been emailed out and can also be read online. Here’s a cut-down version with the highlights:

  1. Dogs have to be registered by 1 July 2014. The last day for paying dog registration fees without a penalty is 31 July 2014. There are no fee increases this year …
  2. Boarding kennels are being developed at the Moa Point Animal Shelter on Wellington’s south coast. The facilities at ‘Club Moa’ are set to open mid-year once upgrading and landscaping is complete. The kennels, at 73 Moa Point Road, will be able to host 25 dogs overnight in individual pens with their own exercise yards. A further 25 dogs can be taken for ‘doggy day care’. …
  3. Summer beach restrictions for dogs finish[ed] on Sunday 6 April with the end of daylight saving.…
  4. Are you confident about handling animals and can keep your cool in an emergency? Our Animal Services team is looking for volunteers in Lower Hutt and Wellington who can help us during a civil emergency — tsunami, earthquakes, fire and floods.…
  5. Apply now for responsible dog owner status and save money. Responsible dog owners — 2500 in Wellington City — receive a discount of between $60 and $100 on standard dog registration fees. There are over 10,000 dogs registered in Wellington.…
