Description

Ellice Street quarry is off Ellice Street in Mt Victoria, Wellington, New Zealand.

Ellice Street Quarry - pretty much the whole area.

Ellice Street Quarry — pretty much the whole area — behind the wooden rail.

The Ellice Street Quarry is a tiny, flat grassy area on the low slopes of Mt Victoria in Wellington. A paved path leads up from Ellice Street and a couple of tracks lead into the Town Belt.

It may be suitable for elderly, less mobile dogs, or perhaps small dogs that don’t go far.

It has a claim to fame, in that it was the site of filming for some scenes in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies, as described by one local resident in Fifty Yards from Middle Earth.

This is area #31 on the City Council map: Ellice Street quarry (110Kb PDF).
