Access for wheelchairs, and pushchairs
- Yes, but the formed path slopes fairly steeply down to the off-leash area where conditions may not be suitable for wheelchairs. When we visited in August 2009 the path had been scoured out at one point by water and would probably not allow a wheelchair to pass.
Facilities
- Rubbish bin: yes — at the car park entrance.
- Toilets: no
- Seats: yes. There are a couple of seats within the park area.
- Lighting at night: no.
Description
Seton Nossiter Park off-leash area is off Mark Ave, in Grenada, Wellington, New Zealand.
Seton Nossiter Park.
Seton Nossiter Park off-leash area runs for around 750 metres beside a stream in a Flood Detention Area. It was quite muddy when we visited in August 2009.
The off-leash area itself is pretty much flat and grassy and allows plenty of space for dogs to run. The path, such as it is, crosses the stream several times, by means of small bridges, each with a couple of steps.
The hills on either side are covered in gorse and bush, with plenty of birdlife.
After a short walk you come to a fenced area of remnant forest, with tawa and titoki trees.
Seton Nossiter Park is a 30ha protected natural reserve nestled in the steep gullies between five Wellington suburbs. The park provides established walking tracks through native bush and has open space areas, streams, and informal picnic spots. It is very sheltered and has its own micro-climate due to its low-lying nature to the surrounding hillsides. The gully provides a haven of natural atmosphere with an inherent and unadulterated environment that is excellent for recreational use.

The main entrance is at the Western end, off Mark Ave, but the park itself is well away from the road and houses.
Apparently it’s very popular with dogs and their owners at certain times.

I used to visit this park about three times a week with my golden retriever when we lived in J’ville. Lots of friendly regulars – most dogs are offleash. If you walk through the picnic area, turn right for the pathed bush walk, or keep heading along the main stream for a large valley of blackberry bush. You may even find the “secret” waterfall.
Thanks for that Jac.
Which end is the picnic area – the motorway end or the school end?
Picnic area is in the middle of the park
Thanks Chris. That’s handy to know. Do you enjoy your visits to the park?
